I had an interesting experience a few years ago on the Newark Light rail. I validated my ticket a Penn sta Newark and the ink was so pale it was virtually unreadable although you could tell it was there. I took a ride to Broad St where there was an inspector checking tickets. From the other end of the 2 car unit I was on, he asked to see my ticket which I showed him and he OKd it. Now he was s far away that he had no way of knowing whether it was actually valid or not, but I imagine that from my willingness to show it immediately he assumed it was OK and didn’t check further. I rode back to Penn where I changed for the car to Bellville and revalidated the ticket and the new time was a lot darker than the original so that if I were challenge again it would have looked completely legit.
