Gentrification has hit Harlem big time. Even back then, it wasn't as "unsafe" as stereotypically perceived. When I lived in Beacon, I used to take my son to Yankee Games (before the Yankees stop was built) via MN to 125, then walk to the 125 & Lex subway sta & catch the #4 to the Stadium, and back, many times...and lived to tell about it. |
