You are correct, the other viewpoint is an obsolete view of what is successful "management" I stayed in my collective bargaining group, and with hourly set well above "scale" I worked a deal that salary and benefits combined ended up being quite a bit more than almost everyone in the company with a title supposedly "above" mine. But people who reported to me, who were willing to take all the emergency call work and weekend and holiday coverage could make more than me. Who cares. Their willingness to do that and always come through made my group a success, and when I was at the rink, or watching TV at home, or out to dinner, they made the blood money. My function was to keep that going....I was well rewarded for what I did, if someone sacrificed to make more, God bless them...
