New York Subway Calendar 2021

Posted by IRTRedbirdR33 on Wed Oct 28 12:02:18 2020

Once again our friend, Bill Newkirk has done an outstanding job with the Subway Calendar. This year there seems to be something for everyone, IRT, BMT, IND, subways and els. I always like to pick out a favorite pictures but Bill makes it hard because there are so many good ones.

The best one from my point of view has to be the entry for November 2021. This features a train of D-Types on the Brighton Line at Avenue H. All of the foliage is changing colors and there are leaves on the tracks.

My second choice is the October 2021 pictures of a train of new R-17’s rounding the curve on the Pelham Line to enter Whitlock Avenue station. The train is just coming off the Westchester Avenue Bridge over the Bronx River. The cars are painted a bright maroon. To the left of the picture on can see the abandoned station house of the former NYW&B Railroad. A little further to the left but off screen was the main docking port of the Bronx River fishing fleet. At one time vessels could navigate the river as far up as West Farms. By the early 1960’s navigation had been cut back to Westchester Avenue. The fishing fleet constituted of six vessels, Suntan, Bronx Queen, Raschal, Ventura, Claire and Claire II. Over the year most of these boats either moved to City Island or other locations. Locals would wait for the boats to return and buy fresh fish right at the dock.

Keep up the good work Bill.
