Posted by jailhousedoc on Mon Oct 26 15:17:00 2020 my father and a friend of his - both now long deceased - worked for the IRT as station cleaners starting around 1929/ They became the first African American men to become platform conductors in mid to late 1937. Was the Brotherhood of Pullman Porters involved with the IRT in any way ? Was there a civil service test for the jobs in the subways around those times ? |
