And on this date in 1969, riders on the 7 (and the rest of the city as well) went bananas as the Miracle Mets wrapped up the World Series. I remember that day as though it were yesterday. Steve: I was in New York City that day. I was home on leave from the Air Force and was visiting the bank where I used to work at 51st Street and Park Avenue. The division that I worked in dealt with the stock market so the news of the Mets win came over the ticker tape. I bid farewell to my friends and was walking down Vanderbilt Avenue when the sky was filled with ticker tape and graffiti. Total strangers were shaking hands and signing. I did not know it then but the girl I was to marry three years later was also on Vanderbilt Avenue at the same time. That's a New York story for you. Larry, RedbirdR33 |
