Although service on the el had ended a year earlier, the potion of the el between there and 42 St had to remain for another year since the structure carried power cables from a substation on 34 St just west of 3 Ave to feed the Flushing Line. Once different arrangements for power were made, the el was able to come down. It’s also interesting to note that there is a complete signal still standing just west of where the S/B lcl tk was. I have no idea why it wasn’t removed after service ended and set aside as a replacement part for the rest of the transit system.
