Also on this post, didn't the 1958 accident at Newark bay also spell the end of that passenger service? There were actually three separate events. February 3, 1946 - The freighter "Jagger Seam" collides with the drawbridge on the direct line between Jersey City and Newark. This bridge is then permanently taken out of service. September 15, 1958 - The aforementioned train plunging off the Newark Bay Bridge and killing about 40 people. May 16, 1966 - The freighter "S.S. Washington collides with the north span of the Newark Bay Bridge. After that all rail traffic is routed over the south span. Larry, RedbirdR33 |
