The Broad St bound side platform was built along with the center island portion of Essex St in 1908. When the line was extended to Chambers St in 1913, the side platform was opened. The station was originally called Delancey St. Remember, a lot of the unused structures and areas were built when the City was considering the old Triborough routes. For example, the next station, Bowery, has a sealed up door and partial passageway to a never-built Triborough 3rd Ave subway. |
