That sounds a bit odd for 34/6. when I was a M/M it was common practice on AMUE equipment to release all the air just as the train was coming to a stop since on level track, prewar cars with friction bearings would usually not roll. There were certain stations that were on a grade where you did have to hold a brake like 145 St upper level on the A/AA. Postwar equipment had roller bearings so it became necessary to always hold a slight brake even on level track.
