A new free transfer point is established between the 42nd Street-8th Avenue IND station and the IRT and BMT stations at Times Square-42nd Street No new structures had to be built, just re-configured. All the re-configuring work was done in the IND mezzanine. The long pedestrian passageway under 41 St had been within fare control for years, with the bank of turnstiles right across the IND entrance to the passageway, and much of the IND mezzanine was not within fare control, the opposite of how it is today, with most of the IND mezzanine within fare control and the bank of turnstiles at the passageway entrance removed. |
