I think your terminology is a bit incorrect. Transformers just change the voltage and current of AC. They don't change DC to AC that was done on the early SMEE cars by motor-generator sets. Solid state inverters which converted DC to AC were introduced on the R42 and newer cars and were installed on the older cars when the went through GOH except for the WF cars which kept the old emergency lighting system. |
