The police are trying to limit access to the area, as hundreds of rioters clash with the cops over repeated raids of the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar just steps from the station entrance. Today, the bar and the park next to the station entrance at Christopher Street and Seventh Avenue is a national monument, operated by the National Park Service.
