That's what I meant by throwing money down certain holes. The ICE has had plenty of issues (I'd expect DB and Siemens to avoid something as basic as a wheel not coming apart…) If you're talking about Eschede, that wasn't merely "a wheel…coming apart". Why should a piece of a tire coming off a wheel have thrown a switch halfway? And how many similar accidents have happened? Did anything like this happen with ICE 3 or any later models? Besides, we're getting into apples/oranges comparisons and red herrings. There isn't anything to compare to with respect to private-sector operations, and the USA isn't going back to private-sector passenger rail the way things keep getting re-regulated. |
