Re: [PHOTOS] ''A'' Division Oldies

Posted by JOE @ NYCMTS - NYCTMG on Sat May 30 23:04:29 2020, in response to [PHOTOS] "A" Division Oldies, posted by Bill Newkirk on Sat May 30 19:57:33 2020.

Hello Bill M (Newkirk)

The FIRST photo is IRT 3rd Ave EL ex-BMT QX Motor Car # 1634-A (NOT 1632) and is seen stored along the track on the east wall side of the IRT E.239th Street Shops. QX Motor Car 1634-A was a backup Revenue Collection Car to relieve the 1878 built IRT EL revenue Collection control-trailer Car "G" .

Note the flat car with MUDC Cars work train behind it - one month later the Wooden EL cars (Q's and MUDC's) were all gone from service by Dec. 16th, 1956 from the Bronx 3rd Ave EL, replaced by 6 car trains of all motor standard-body Steinway Cars. Some MUDC Work motors lasted until 1958 !!

The THIRD photo is looking N/W from the embankment above the E.159th Street Tunnel Portal of the IRT Woodlawn-Jerome Line just below the (original) Yankee Stadium and the E. 161St St EL Station

The FOURTH Photo is looking north to a S/B 3rd Ave El local entering the E. 200th Street (Bedford Pk Blvd) EL Station. The train at right could be the Museum train with the Museum TRAILER car

Regards - Joe F
