Tuscarora Almanac –May 22, 1955– The Book of Last RunsLos Angeles, California Los Angeles Railway Trolley service is discontinued on following routes: F – East 4th Street-Hoover Street 5 – Eagle Rock – Hawthorn 7 – South Broadway-Civic Center 8 – West 54th Street-Civic Center 9 – West 48th Streets-Lincoln Park This was due to construction of the Harbor Freeway, which would step on the private right-of-way used by LARy/LATL. It was located near Grand Av between Jefferson Blvd and Santa Barbara Av (now Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd). I think also, LATL Division 3 in Cypress Park because bus-only at this time, it remains in service today. Tuscarora Almanac - May 22, 1975 - The Book of Wrecks Astoria, Queens, New York New York City Transit Authority BMT Division There was a collision today on the center track of the Astoria Line near 30th Avenue (Grand Avenue) Station.R-30s 8507 and 8545 were badly damaged. The car bodies were reportedly transported by truck to the Corona Yard. (They must have been removed from the el by crane.) The damaged end of 8507 was cut off and transported to the Coney Island Yard. R-30 8507 was later scrapped but 8545 returned to service around June of 1977. IIRC, 8507's mate 8506 is now in the museum fleet |
