Was it a "planned happy accident" for the Delancey Street and Essex Street subway stations - and the creation of the "then possible future transfer station." On one hand this station provides the direct access to Wall Street, but on the other hand the IND Second Avenue was supposed to "do away" with as much of the BRT/BMT as possible - especially the elevated segments.
