Looks like the pic was taken shortly after 2nd Ave El service across the bridge was discontinued.No. It was after the Flushing and Astoria lines were separated. That was a diamond crossover. It allowed trains from Flushing to go over the 2nd Ave El and trains from Astoria to use the Steinway tunnel. The second connection, from Astoria to the Steinway tunnel, stayed in operation until 1949. |
