Tuscarora Almanac – February 20, 1890 – The Book of First Runs

The Bronx, New York
New York and New England Railway

The ferryboat MARYLAND (II) begins service along the East River between 138th Street in The Bronx and the Pennsylvania Railroad terminal at Exchange Place in Jersey City. What we known today as the Northeast Corridor Line was not complete in those days. Passengers travelling between Boston and Philadelphia have to utilize a steamboat between The Bronx and Jersey City. The MARYLAND (II) filled the gap by carrying entire passenger trains across New York Harbor.
