Initially. “P” wasn’t used for rather obvious reasons but was probably revived for the Jamaica to midtown service because it was intended to bring the passengers to (P)enn Station. It actually wasn’t so much for an LIRR strike but because of the threat of an Amtrak strike which would have prevented LIRR trains from going all the way to Penn Station but allow LIRR passengers access to NYCT trains from Jamaica to Manhattan. |
