So what ?Until 1979, there were 3 trains per week along southern Montana and North Dakota + 4 Greyhounds per day. In 1980, there were still just 4 Greyhounds, no train. Today there are 1 -2 Jefferson Lines. Until 1993, there were 7 Pioneers per week between Ogden and Portland. There were 3 Greyhounds per day. Until 1997, there were just 3 Pioneers per week + 3 Greyhounds per day. As of 1998, there were still 3 Greyhounds and no train. Today, there is 1 Greyhound per say. Greyhound has long since quit all the Pennsy Broadway Ltd cities along the Fort Wayne Line, which lost service as well in 1990. Ditto for the Greyhound Canada service paralleling the CP, which lost train service in 1990. Today, there is no bus service at all, except a fragmented mess with gaps of independent carriers. Ditto for loss of service to Halifax and within Maritimes. Long distance rail passengers don't take buses. |
