"I wonder how much effort there is to at least give decent shelter to those who are down-on-there-luck, but not mentally ill or drug users."You forget one major category: Ex-cons who can't stay at one of their usual places, or have a usual place and need a day hangout. There a yuuuge gap the reality of what shelters in cities like NYC actually do vs what you're told by the Daily News, NYT, or any politician. Ask someone who's been in a shelter or works there but is not an ideological warrior. |
