Posted by IRTRedbirdR33 on Fri Feb 14 07:12:45 2020 Tuscarora Almanac - February 14, 1870 - The Book of First Runs Manhattan, New York West Side & Yonkers Patented Railway Company Service begins on the 9th Avenue El between Dey Street and 29th Street - 9th Avenue The line actually ended at 30th Street. There are no intermediate stations. Service is provided by three cable-hauled cars. The cable was subject to frequent breakdowns and on November 15, 1870 the line was closed and sold at auction. Service would resume on April 20, 1871 as a conventional steam hauled railroad. This route was operated by the Central Crosstown Railroad from 1873 to 1904 and by the Metropolitan Street Railway from 1904 to 1912.
