Re: R-42 Retirement Run

Posted by randyo on Tue Feb 11 00:48:35 2020, in response to Re: R-42 Retirement Run, posted by Joe V on Mon Feb 10 17:54:07 2020.

There were more differences between the R-21s and 22s than just the grab straps. The R-21s had backwards opening cab doors like the R-62s before the RFW was eliminated. The R-22s were also the first cars to have factory installed seal beam headlights and interior guard lights which were originally blue. Also the passenger emergency feature that consisted of a small hammer and a glass that could be broken by passengers in emergencies was eliminated and only an employee key could open that single door panel. Also of interest more to employees than passengers, trainline control of car body lights was moved from a key switch outside the storm door under the end sign was moved inside the M/M’s cab.
