Brighton Beach also had huge crowds. Now there are six exit doors from the stairways to the mezzanine level. When I was a kid, there were 12 exit doors to accommodate the crowds exiting the trains to keep the platforms from getting too crowded. Over the years, half the doors were removed and the bottom of the stairways narrowed with the space converted to storage space. |
