Re: London Underground introduces First Class carriages

Posted by Express Rider on Thu Dec 12 09:02:39 2019, in response to Re: London Underground introduces First Class carriages, posted by Alan Follett on Wed Dec 11 23:39:31 2019.

I rode the Sprague cars during the summer of 1968. I only remember the 1st class cars on "my line" - line 12, since I always rode 2nd class on any of the others. These Sprague cars dated, I think, from 1912 when the line opened.

2nd class on line 12, had wooden (polished) seats. First class had deep cushioned seats. These were somewhat stiff when you sat down on them, probably from being so old.

I remember taking quick looks inside the 1st class cars on line 4 and line 13 - both had postwar rolling stock. Not much difference from 2nd class, except for the cushioned seats. IIRC, since this was 51 (?!!) years ago.
