Well, there were 3 basic designs of the BMT steels. 2000-2499 were the same design with s pseudo turtle back roof with individual roof vents and small roll signs. 2500-2599 had the same roof design with a slightly different style of roof vents and larger roll signs. 2600-2899 and the 4000 series trailers had a deck roof more conventional side vents and the large roll signs. What would probably have been necessary to preserve all types would have been the current 2390/1/2 unit, to show one design, a 2500 unit to show the second design and at least one 2600 A unit to show the third. If 2 X 2600 A cars had been retained, a complete 8 car train of steels could have been assembled and used in holiday and other special services. |
