Any trained Motorman KNOWS his/her equipment.The 68/68a is a beast. It's basically a 60ft car stretched out to 75ft, with the same characteristics. These cars are Not the same cars delivered, however. Concourse and Coney Island shops worked extremely hard to get these trains to work properly. Friction Brakes were changed, from cast to composite., cutting down track fire steel dust,etc. Propulsion systems,were changed...cars were unitized into linked sets with drawbars. The 68s became the best running cars out there within the B division, consistently maintaining 100,000+ between breakdowns.. The only cars with a better record is the R160s. |
