Posted by W.B. on Tue Nov 12 06:44:26 2019 November 12, 1935 - The Book of First and Last Runs Manhattan, New York Eighth and Ninth Avenues Railway Company Eighth Avenue Coach Corporation Buses replace streetcars on the Eighth Avenue-Central Park West and Ninth and Amsterdam Avenues lines. The aforementioned trolleys had been run by the Eighth and Ninth Avenues Railway which since June 1 had been owned by New York Railways. Horse-drawn streetcars had first run along Eighth Avenue in 1855, and Ninth Avenue in 1859. The replacement bus service will be provided by the Eighth Avenue Coach Corporation as Route Nos. 10 and 11, respectively. As part of this bustitution, Central Park West throughout its entire stretch between 59th and 110th Streets is converted to two-way traffic. It had previously run one-way southbound.
