Re: Question about NYC Transit's two car overhaul shops

Posted by Edwards! on Mon Nov 11 00:46:08 2019, in response to Re: Question about NYC Transit's two car overhaul shops, posted by andy on Sun Nov 10 22:13:14 2019.

Tunnel profile was changed during rebuild for the tapered sided car body, not straight sided cars.

R 46/68/160/179/211 have tapered side walls.
Older R units don't, and beven though the R42 appears to have tapered side walls, it still has straight wall profile that newer cars don't.

A mistake,but since older R units don't operate on routes B/D/N/Q or R,it doesn't matter.
The Southern Division has its own shops to handle specific cars, preferably newer models.
All older R units are in the North, with a few Eastern division cars tossed in.

Basically, the Northern section, and the Eastern division are unitized... with 207 being the Main Overhaul shop, ENY and Pitkin being regular maintenance shops.

The Eastern division is actually better off without the Southern Division.
