Re: Some notes for the Eight Avenue Subway

Well, whatever the political aspects are, the state now has another Capital Program with a new car/SMS section.

For the subway,R211/262 programs are set to replace R46/62/62a railcars, with the 68 possibly replaced with option orders on the 211 contract.

I believe retiring the 62s
is a mistake.
These are solid cars, which
can last another 30 years with renovation.

We've seen what a rebuilt R62 could look like, just take a look at the recent "Taking of Pelham 123" film (Denzel Washington).
The subway car used was a R62 with interior/exterior changes to look like an NTT R142. The redesign was extensive.
So much so,the Only give away was the double stainless strips along the car body at the beltline.
For all intents and purposes, that was a R142 built out of an R62 frame.

If Hollywood can do that to one of our subway cars for a MOVIE, then Transit can do it for practical reasons.
