The R-33 singles and the WF R-36s eventually were all painted in the fox red paint scheme although as I mentioned in my other post, when the MTA took over, it decided to paint all its rolling stock in the platinum mist and blue scheme which didn’t last too long due to graffiti. The Redbird program started back in the 1980s under David Gunn and was used on all LAHT cars with the exception of 10 mainline R-33s and the GOHed R-10s which were done in green. In the interim, a few IRT cars both mainline and Flushing were done in an all white paint scheme supposedly to make it easier for the yardmasters to spot a graffitied car and get it washed right away, but that didn’t work too well.
