I missed the last Redbird run- I didn't know when it would occur. But as I knew the end was coming, I got one last revenue ride myself, on 10/6/03.Right through November and December of 2003, I saw evening scrap moves of Redbirds on the Broadway BMT (8th Street) , around 19:30 - 20:00. One pair at a time sped through the station on the Brooklyn-bound express track. I guess they crossed to the BMT at Queensboro Plaza, and somewhere near De Kalb Avenue, crossed over to the 6th Avenue IND, then switch to the 8th Ave IND at West 4th, for the final run to 207th. That's my guess, anyway. I suppose it's entirely possible that some or all of them may have gone all the way to Coney Island and laid over for a few hours or days before the trip of doom to 207th. |
