Spring St sort of makes sense for a layup and/or put-in, since it could reach either Union Sq or Brooklyn Bridge. But 135th...? It can't be for single-tracking since there's a full crossover switch north of the station (unless there wasn't back in the day?). Maybe it was meant to hold put-ins from the yard without blocking the White Plains Rd junction but why wrong-rail through 145th...?It's kind of like the weird layup tracks at 72 St and Union Sq but at least those are pointed in the direction of traffic. |
