That is the GG1 which crashed through the floor of Washington Union Station in January 1953 just before Dwight Eisenhower's inauguration after the brakes failed on the consist it was pulling causing it to crash through the buffer stop. Fortunately the engineer sounded his horn to warn of the runaway and no one was killed. The GG1 was cut into sections and sent to Altoona to be rebuilt and it served the PRR for many more years. |
