And the only reason it needed such extensive repairs was because it hadn't been properly maintained up until then. Look at the Triboro/RFK bridge- it's now 80+ years old, needs work (which it's receiving), but is not in the state of near collapse that the Willy B and, to a lesser extent, the Manny B were.If the Willy B and Manny B had been properly cared for, they would not have needed the same scale of work they did. |
