Replacing the Manny B tracks with a tunnel is not as easy as waving a magic wand and saying “presto.” besides the cost of the tunnel itself, the alignment of the approaches to the bridge probably won't match the location of any new tunnel. The current alignments on both sides of the bridge also rise to get to the bridge and any new approaches will have to descend to a reasonable level in order to access any proposed tunnel and it is made even more difficult by the presence of stations on both sides which may or may not have to be relocated. |
