I got my driver's license on this date in 1973. And in 1980, I set off for Colorado, thereby missing the lowest point the subway system would reach. By the time I visited NYC again four years later, the system was starting to come back. I saw my first Redbird 7 train and first R-62 4 train then.

Also on this date in 1973, the Express Ride From Hell took place that afternoon.
