I used to do trips of precisely that length after school. Here are the fun ones I remember:MNRR to Croton-Harmon (nice view of the Hudson river, and Croton Harmon station is practically in the railyard). MNRR to Stamford (fastest trackage on MNRR is the express as you pass Harrison, Mamaroneck and Larchmont). LIRR express to Babylon (if you take a diesel one way and electric the other, you'll likely get a completely different route each direction). LIRR to Long Beach LIRR to West Hempstead, grab a bite at White Castle (if it's still there), walk or take a bus to Hempstead, return on the Hempstead Branch. As an aside, if you want to do NJT, go for Rahway. |
