It hasn't been rural for at least 50 years. Whatever the design flaws of the 3rd tracking project, I am glad to see these crossings separated.As a railfan, I like looking at crossings, seeing the lights and bells, etc. But I also know that the accidents that inevitably occur at crossings make railroads look bad to anti-rail politicians. So in places like Nassau, they need to go. Same on the Ronkonkoma line, as someone else posted. There are some awesome crossings in West Palm Beach, Florida, right by City Place. Huge gantries... Route 60, on Florida's west coast also has some cool-looking crossings just east of Brandon. But I'm sure the use of these Florida is minor, compared to the LIRR mainline. |
