Re: LIRR Covert Avenue grade crossing elimination (New Hyde Park)

True. But human nature is what it is...

And these scofflaw drivers do not just risk their own lives- witness the passengers who died in the MNRR grade-crossing crash in 2015...

In my opinion, no heavily used (like LIRR and MNRR) grade crossings should exist on any busy road in any crowded metropolitan area.

For example, maybe the freight crossings on Staten Island at South Avenue and Western Avenue are ok, as the former is used a few times a week, and the latter is not in a congested area. The SBK crossing of 3rd Avenue in Brooklyn is also ok, as it's seldom used at all, and when it is TA personnel stop vehicular traffic. But anything busier than these should be separated.
