Posted by Express Rider on Tue Aug 20 19:48:55 2019, in response to Re: Lower Level platform 42nd & 8th Ave., posted by randyo on Tue Aug 20 17:00:39 2019. would avoiding maintenance costs have saved that much money through the years for switches such as these (or anywhere else in the system) to be removed?Sites like the one above - if these were left in place, wouldn't switches facilitate any kind of potential train moves that became necessary, revenue ones for the benefit of passengers and non revenue moves to yards/shops etc. - the latter especially - efficientt train movement between tracks benefits normal operations immediately, and less down time for active rolling stock being moved - i.e. less travel time to switching sites for immediate revenue route changes, or for a massive fleet movement from a secondary yard to 207 or CI for major work? |
