Hudson River Day Line

The Hudson River Day Line steamboat “HENDRICK HUDSON” makes her first trip today from New York City to Albany.

The HENDRICK HUDSON was built in 1906 at the Thomas S. Marvel Shipyard in Newburgh, New York. She was the third largest steamboat ever to operate on the Hudson. She displaced 2847 gross tons and measured 337 feet from bow to stern. She served as the flagship of the Day Line fleet from 1906 - 1913 and again from 1926 – 1948. Due to her large passenger capacity she was usually in service on the lower river between Poughkeepsie and New York. The original company went out of business at the end of the 1948 season and four remaining vessels; HENDRICK HUDSON, ROBERT FULTON, ALEXANDER HAMILTON and PETER STUYVESANT, were acquired by a new company known as the Hudson River Day Line, Inc.
She never ran in service after 1948 and on June 4, 1951 she left New York harbor under tow for the breakers yard on the Delaware River.
