Yes, I think for awhile the #8 was the third ave. el. #8 was also the route number IIRC given to the Astoria Line, when it was still jointly operated with the IRT.Being from Philadelphia, do you remember riding the original Market-Frankford cars - the earliest part of the fleet that had clerestory roofs and looked very similar to the pre-war IRT cars? I read somewhere on-line, that the later pre-war Market Frankfort cars could not operate with the earliest - the way the difference was described, seemed as though the earlier cars were also high voltage.
