SEPTA became expert at "temporarily" suspending trolley lines. The first I recall was the 47 due to construction at Reading Terminal. The tracks were maintained; only the wire was removed in the immediate vicinity.

The rest is history. I can't think of a single line (since 6 - Willow Grove was truncated) that was "honestly" simply abandoned rather suspended.
