Re: It's officially announced: F Express service in Brooklyn

Posted by Bill from Maspeth on Wed Jul 10 14:38:10 2019, in response to It's officially announced: F Express service in Brooklyn, posted by Allan on Wed Jul 10 10:32:31 2019.

I doubt if these are 2 additional trains in the AM and PM, rather 2 trains each rush hour rerouted to the express track because once they merge with the E, the express tracks are already at capacity.

More importantly, looking at the AM rush, once the new schedules are published, it could give the G even spacing of intervals out of Church Ave. CURRENTLY trains during the F target time of 7 to 7:30, G trains leave Church Ave. at the following times: 6:58, 7:06 (8 minute gap), 712 (6), 7:21 (9), 7:30 (9), 7:35 (5).

As you can see, G trains do not have evenly spaced intervals. Sometimes a given G train could have 2 F's in between it and its' leader, and sometimes just 1 F between it and its' leader.

For example, when I worked the G right before retirement 5 1/2 years ago, I made a 7:07/Church, my leader was 10 minutes ahead of me (6:57) with 2 F's between us and my follower was a 7:13, 6 minutes behind me with just 1 F between us. The result was most of the time I left a minute or 2 late (by the time the second F left the station, signals cleared and I got on my train, charged it up and left). The result was a hellish trip with a packed train by Bed/Nost along with long station dwell times. Because of the long gap it resulted in my follower catching up to me by Metropolitan.
