2. Is Acela first class worth it when travelling from WAS to NYP?

As I noted to JM, I rode in First, but was a special case scenario for me, and I've yet to replicate that experience for the section north to Boston. If you have money to burn and enjoy skipping the peasant stops, Business should be sufficient, but First makes it a bit more special. Mind you, I booked on points and not with actual cash, so my situation is different.
