MNRR uses third rail from N White Plains to Southeast, where there are grade crossings. And LIRR still has grade crossings with third rail.Other than the Valhalla accident, I'm not aware of third rail making grade crossings more dangerous than they already are anyway. And presumably the end pieces of third rail at grade crossings have been redesigned to prevent another Valhalla accident. So I think LIRR wouldn't want to introduce a new system, but would stick with third rail. |
