"It's a shame too since the LIRR just rehabilitated that El a couple of years ago without even thinking about eliminating this operational obstacle."

They might have rebuilt it the way they did anticipating the NYCTA taking over the line someday, thus any upgrading raising weight or height limits would be unnecessary.
