It's ridiculous how many substations the LIRR requires for electrification. 4 substations between Rosedale and Bellmore when Amtrak has just as many between New Haven and Boston.

Another thing I read about the LIRR's electric system though is how it apparently operates on a grid throughout the whole island west of around Ronkonkoma, making it relatively easy to electrify to Oyster Bay, Patchogue, and Port Jefferson. Not sure how true that is though.
